The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program (Muskie)

Host Applicant Information
Institutions interested in being considered as a host for the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program must submit a host application. IREX welcomes applications from regionally accredited colleges and universities able to provide an intensive, dynamic, and high-quality graduate education. Applications for the 2011 Muskie program will be available online in late Fall 2010.
If you have questions about participating in the Muskie program as a host university, please contact Michael Dyer at mdyer@irex.org.
University representatives wanting to receive information relevant to hosts (including hosting opportunities, the Muskie Messenger quarterly newsletters, and other updates) are welcome to subscribe to the Muskie Host Universities listserv.
Muskie Fellows Are Leaders
Participants in the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship program are talented individuals who are selected for their potential to serve as leaders in their home countries. Alumni go on to serve in government, non-profits, the private sector, and international organizations. Host universities benefit from long-term relationships with leaders in these emerging and transitional nations. Muskie fellows are actively shaping the face of Eurasia today, and your campus will benefit from their regional perspective.
Competitive Selection Process
Muskie fellows undergo a competitive selection process. In order to be selected, applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, past professional success, a desire to serve their community, and the potential for leadership. This rigorous selection process ensures that selected fellows are poised to excel academically and then serve in positions of leadership and contribute to economic and democratic development in their home countries.
Benefits of Hosting
"I have been continually impressed by the quality of the Muskie fellows. They have proved to be international ambassadors, adding significantly to the knowledge of our American students regarding the countries of the former Soviet Union. They are hard-working, committed to learning new ideas and have contributed significantly to the classroom environment."
-Dr. Bruce Clary, Muskie School of Public Service, The University of Southern Maine
"Wake Forest University has hosted Muskie Fellowship scholars for ten years. These scholars have always been outstanding students and have contributed immeasurably to our LL.M. classes, our law school, the university and our community."
-Susan R. Montaquila, Assistant Dean, School of Law, Wake Forest University
"The Muskie Program is an important program...making this educational opportunity available to appropriate professionals from developing countries as well as allowing our American students the opportunity to learn from their contacts with students from other countries."
-Dr. Philip S. Brachman, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University
