As a Program Head/Gender Coordinator of Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology, Amelyn Laro serves as a social worker, educator, international volunteer, and gender and human rights advocate. While in the U.S., Laro worked with Women's Initiative on Self Empowerment (WISE) in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she explored the feasibility of and outlined necessary steps to create a formalized case management program, identified the most effective ways to support the holistic needs of GGAL program participants, and increased access of families and participants needed for community and education services. Since her return to the Philippines, Laro has established the Advocacy on Women's Education and Empowerment (AWE) Project, a capacity-building leadership development project for young women students and professionals in social work in the Davao region.
