Nowsheen Purabi
As a Physician, Researcher, and Health Activist of Dr. Purabi's Help Desk, Dr. Nowsheen Purabi establishes sexual and reproductive health rights by creating awareness and providing doorstep health services. While in the U.S., Purabi worked with Human Rights in Childbirth in Portland, where she learned about the rights of a woman during childbirth, the role of midwives in decreasing number of unnecessary C-sections, and tools that could be used to raise awareness on respectful maternity care. Since her return to Bangladesh, Purabi has successfully led an advocacy campaign on the reduction of tax from sanitary napkins to facilitate menstrual hygiene management and women's empowerment, published a book about the psychological, medical, and gender-specific aspects of women's health, and is working in various other capacities to further women’s health projects.
