As the Assistant Chief in the Bangladesh Ministry of Planning, Md. Taibur Rahman works on a government-sponsored program to prepare communities for natural disasters, providing them with the resources that will help build community resiliency. During his fellowship, Rahman worked with the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, on their Coastal Storms Program, which helps communities adapt to and recover from natural disasters due to climate change. While at the Consortium, Rahman took a particular interest in the Community Resilience Index, which measures a community’s resilience to natural disasters, and worked establish a similar index for coastal communities in Bangladesh.
