Izabella Marton
As a free-lance expert, Izabella Marton aims to learn more about social movements (especially about movements in Latin-America) and ways of improving the social and political participation of people living in poverty. During her CSP fellowship, Marton worked for VOCAL New York in Brooklyn, assisting in the organization’s efforts to mobilize communities around issues related to social injustice and poverty. Upon returning to Hungary, Marton piloted a community organizing campaign aimed at increasing the political participation of low-income individuals in Hungary. Based on the pilot-project, the Hungarian Anti-Poverty Network (the first organization in Hungary employing a dedicated community organizer) started a long-term community organizing program with people on work-fare and has been actively involved in different kinds of cooperation to disseminate community organizing in the country. After having been involved more than 10 years in the work of the Hungarian and the European Anti-Poverty Network, Izabella switched continents and moved to México for inspiration, learning and contributing there.
