Carolina Zapata Estevez
As a Project Coordinator of Heartland Alliance International, Carolina Zapata manages initiatives promoting the resilience of displaced populations. While in the U.S., Zapata worked with Welcoming Atlanta in Atlanta, where she raised awareness about the rights of migrants to the Atlanta mayor's office, strengthened community networks of Latino leaders, and helped Spanish-speaking day laborers find legal services to regulate their immigration status. Since her return to the Dominican Republic, Zapata has been working with HAI, with funding from UNHCR, on a psychosocial care project focused on the prevention of human trafficking and mental health services for Venezuelans, migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees in the Dominican Republic.
