T. Estella Nelson is a leading advocate for women’s access to information in Liberia and the founder and executive director of the Liberia Women Media Action Committee. Formed in 2003 to highlight the widespread sexual and gender‐based violence during the conflict in Liberia, the organization now runs the first and only women’s radio station in the country, Liberia Women Democracy Radio. The station serves as a platform to give women a voice in national development, working at the grassroots level through organized outreach forums where women are given a chance to bring their issues to the table during discussions that are later turned into radio programs.
