As the Tourism Coordinator for ICEI/OVERSEAS in Sri Lanka, Sumedha Devapriya focuses on developing community-based tourism projects in Kandy and Ampara. His work focuses on community awareness, training and skills development, developing tour itineraries, and marketing community-based tourism services. While in the U.S., Devapriya worked with The Forest Foundation (TFF) in Durham, North Carolina, where he gained insights on alternative economies, alternative energy industry, and promoting local economies with a focus on people and environment first. He got hands-on experience regarding the hybrid model of non-profit and for-profit operations in funding sustainable development with TFF and with its sister organization Greenway Transit. Upon returning from the Community Solutions Program, he worked with social entrepreneurs and enterprises to help them address socio-economic and environmental issues faced by marginalized communities, focusing specifically on initiatives promoting the emerging green economy in Sri Lanka.
