Luis Quijano
Deputy Project Director
Luis Quijano is a deputy project director for the Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) Program.
In this role, he provides leadership for programmatic and curricular planning, budgetary oversight, monitoring and evaluation, and participant emergency management for the Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) Program. The CEE attracts approximately 120 emerging global civil society changemakers and equips them with the expertise, skills, and resources to develop multisector approaches and build healthy and engaged communities in over 100 countries.
Before his arrival at IREX, Luis worked as a two-time Fulbright Grantee in Porto Alegre, Brazil where he liaised with the Fulbright Commission Brazil and served as an ETA Regional Leader, overseeing and providing mentorship for 18 English Teaching Assistants in Rio Grande do Sul.
Prior to this work, Luis worked for the Office of International Education at Miami Dade College, where he worked to significantly increase global opportunities for over 160,000 students, in addition to staff and administrators. He served as the official Fulbright Program Advisor and directed various grants, including the 100K Strong in the Americas White-House initiative and Goberna Las Americas-Miami, School of High Politics and Good Governance.
Luis’ previous experiences also include working directly with ECA sponsored programs during his tenure as program coordinator of the Fulbright Specialist Program at the Institute of International Education. Luis brings a commitment to diversity and inclusion and served on the NAFSA Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion and collaboratively launched the inaugural Diversity and Inclusion training for Fulbright ETAs in Brazil.
Luis is Cuban-American and a first-generation college graduate. He received a bachelor of arts in political science, international studies, and Spanish from Loyola University Chicago in 2012. He shares a passion for languages, with native Spanish and advanced Portuguese language skills, and a desire to continue exploring more.
