Kevin Rodriguez
Kevin works in the energy and environment sector as the Energy Advisor of Mercados Electricos S de RL. For people over eighteen involved in the power sector through working in a power-generating organization or industries with high electricity consumption and seeking to reduce costs by acquiring cheaper power, Mercados Electricos S de RL is a consulting service that offers know-how on taking advantage of market options by obtaining energy from sources other than government-owned utilities. In the short term, Kevin aims to inform key players and stakeholders about the benefits of changing from a state-managed power market to a competitive market model. Ultimately, they want to establish the company as a power marketer/retailer offering solutions to local and regional power sector players through private power purchasing agreements. Coming into the YLAI Fellowship, Kevin’s top business challenge is Law and Policy. More specifically, they want to convince decision-makers about the benefits of a competitive power market model over a traditional, vertically integrated, and state-owned system. During the Fellowship Placement, Kevin hopes to gain experience in networking by learning from other companies. They also want to understand how to navigate the financial challenges and political environment that most Latin American countries must overcome.
