Currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Peace Studies at Notre Dame University in Indiana, Emerson Kamara was previously the Executive Director of Peacelinks in Sierra Leone where he trained local government officials on how to be more transparent in their financial operations. During his fellowship in the U.S., Kamara worked for Colorado Common Cause in Denver, Colorado, where he assisted the organization in their communications efforts. Upon his return to Sierra Leone, Kamara organized a campaign to create greater synergy between local government councils and community members. The campaign included radio and other public advertisements, as well as a series of trainings for local council members on how to better incorporate citizens into the decision making process.
