As Advisor to the Secretary of Education, Youth Affairs, and Sport in the Tobago House of Assembly, Essie Parks-Ewing provides technical support to the Secretary in the areas of policy formulation, project evaluation, and research. During her CSP fellowship, she worked with Eco-Cycle in Boulder, Colorado, learning the “zero waste” philosophy and how to create and advocate for a recycling culture. Upon her return to the island of Tobago, Parks attempted to set the foundation for government to take steps toward transforming the waste industry into a sustainable resource management industry and becoming a model for other small island developing countries in sustainable solid waste management.
