Francis Chilenga is a technical consultant for Alternative Energy Source for Heating, a 2015 UNSP SEED Africa Award winning project focused on sustainable agriculture and natural resources management through the promotion of biomass briquettes made from agricultural wastes as an alternative energy source for heating and cooking. The foundation engages unemployed, out-of-school youth in the production of the briquettes, thus providing employment while at the same time reducing deforestation. During his fellowship in the United States, Chilenga hopes to learn sustainable ways of managing natural resources which take into consideration employment generation and entrepreneurship. Upon returning from the Community Solutions Program, Chilenga plans to engage more unemployed youth by building their skills in biomass briquette making and natural resource management.
