James Waruiru is the co-founder and project manager of Fountain of Hope Youth Initiative, a community-based organization that strives to ensure young women from poor communities remain in school during menstruation. During his fellowship in the United States, he hopes to learn how to measure the impact of a project through monitoring and evaluation, define the project objectives, oversee quality control throughout a project’s life cycle, better fundraising and research practices. Upon completion of the Community Solutions Program, Waruiru hopes to return home and establish a large sewing center to produce reusable sanitary pads that are cost-effective, comfortable and 100% eco-friendly.
