As Co-Founder and current Coordinator of CAPABLE-Rwanda, an organization that promotes youth participation in community development and peacebuilding initiatives, Jean de Dieu Gatete has been active in various student-led initiatives for peace, reconciliation and socio-economic reconstruction of post-genocide Rwanda, including education campaigns on HIV/AIDS and malaria. As a fellow in Los Angeles, Gatete worked with his host organization – The Peace Project – to develop a model of integrating sustainable peace in post-conflict regions. Following the Community Solutions Program, Gatete has developed a leadership education project with the CAPABLE network to provide youth with the tools that allow them to actively participate in socioeconomic recovery and to become entrepreneurs of a green economy.
