Luis Melgarejo has worked on community tolerance and inclusion issues for over nine years, as part of the Sexual and Gender Diversity Committee in Cochabamba, including directing the Sexual and Gender Diversity Cultural Center – Cochabamba (CCDSGC) that brings local and national artists and intellectuals into the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community to help advocate for full equal rights for all people in Bolivia. During his CSP fellowship, Melgarejo worked with the Family Equality Council in Boston, Massachusetts, to reach out to minority communities within the LGBT community, and to advocate for diverse families rights in Massachusetts and nationwide. Upon his return to Bolivia, he worked to improve the professional and personal life of a young generation of LGBT rights activists and LGBT people, through empowerment workshops, political incidence strategies, and programs that involve the whole local community.
