Mahasen Al-Emam is the Director of the Arab Women Media Center in Jordan, which focuses on media freedom, journalistic ethics, coverage of women, children and family rights issues, and media as a part of democracy education. She was awarded a Knight International Press Fellowship in Washington, DC, in 2002, recognizing her work under difficult and sometimes dangerous circumstances. She has been acknowledged for standing in defiance of government restrictions on press freedom, and covered the Iran-Iraq war even though her newspaper's management refused to back her.
