Mariola Urgelles
Mariola works in the cosmetics sector as the CEO and Founder of Sunspectra. For women between fifteen and thirty-five who are looking for sustainable alternatives to everyday products, Sunspectra is dedicated to upcycling agricultural waste into cosmetic products. The company’s first line of products is reef-safe, papaya-based sunscreens that double as makeup. Sunspectra, a consumer goods and skincare provider, seeks to generate a positive impact by reducing food waste and CO2 emissions, minimizing chemical and plastic pollution in our oceans, and financially supporting local producers by purchasing their waste products. Mariola’s main short-term goals are expanding to international markets, establishing a strong brand presence, and securing distribution channels in California. Their long-term goal is to head a global leader in the beauty industry, recognized for its exceptional skincare products and unwavering commitment to environmental and social responsibility, setting new standards for sustainable practices, transparency, and positive impact. Coming into the YLAI Fellowship, Mariola’s top business challenge is Scaling and Expansion. More specifically, they hope to achieve an expansion strategy that effectively introduces their sustainable skincare products to untapped international markets while navigating cultural nuances and ensuring a seamless customer experience. During the Fellowship Placement, Mariola hopes to gain exposure to practical insights, cross-cultural experiences, and mentorship that will deepen her understanding of international markets.
