Mary Sue Burns taught science at Pocahontas County High School since 1985. She teaches chemistry, physics, and Earth science to juniors and seniors, mainly in the age range of 16-18 years old. Mary Sue is an active member of her State Science Teachers Association and currently serves as Secretary. She has also provided staff development for science teachers at the state level. Through her participation in TGC, Mary Sue gained insights and skills that helped her to effectively share a global vision with her students, colleagues, and community.

In her Global Education Guide, Mary Sue provides resources specifically for educators in West Virginia. She has written an Earth Science unit plan on geological hazards around the world. Students learn about tectonic plate movements and geological hazards created by certain movements. They then connect their learnings to people most affected by the hazards. Students are challenges to think about the greater implications of tectonic plate movements and create safety and communication plans to vulnerable populations. Mary Sue traveled to Russia on her International Field Experience and collected an assortment of resources that can be found on her travel blog.
