Michael Henthorn
Michael Henthorn was one of two participating members of the prestigious WLSC Honors Program—in the spring of 1998. He is quite proud of his and peer-reviewed thesis, “A Comparison of Global and Analytical Styles in Traditional and Non-traditional Poetry Lessons.” Also in 2001, Michael was named Buford High School Teacher of the Year. In 2003, he achieved National Board Certification in English Language Arts/Young Adulthood. He served as the SPHS English Department Chair from 2007-2012 and was the South Pointe High School Teacher of the Year for 2008-2009. He currently serves as an assessor for Pearson and for National Board Professional Teaching Standards.
In his Global Education Guide, Michael Henthorn provides a unit plan on “Passing and Racial Justice”. Students learn about racial justice while investigating the relationship between power, perspective, and perception. At the end of the unit, students develop practices to combat racial justice in the US and abroad. Michael traveled to Colombia for his International Field Experience and provides a collection of resources that can be found on his travel blog.
