Nadira Isayeva, Russia, is a journalist internationally recognized for her brave reporting from the North Caucasus. She has been editor of the weekly newspaper Cheronovik in Dagestan, which published coverage of the insurgency in the region. She was arrested in 2008 after publishing an interview with a former guerilla leader, and went on trial in January 2010. Her eventual acquittal, along with three newspaper colleagues, was heralded as a press freedom victory. In 2010, she was recognized with the Committee to Protect Journalism's International Press Freedom Award. She is now visiting scholar at Columbia University.
