Pamela Barroso
Pamela works in the agriculture and animal care sector as the Chief Business Officer of Luyef Biotechnologies. For plant-based and cultivated meat companies seeking innovative and sustainable ingredients and technologies for their products, Luyef Biotechnologies is a biotechnology company focused on serving the food and beverage sector with products such as TAMEE, a bovine myoglobin-based ingredient that enhances the flavor, color, and aroma of plant-based meat products. Pamela aims to scale production and progress from laboratory-scale to pilot-scale operations in the short term and ultimately to become a strategic partner for alternative meat companies, leveraging the company's technology to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable and animal-free industry and solidifying its role as a leading biotechnology innovator. Coming into the YLAI Fellowship, Pamela’s top business challenge is Finance. More specifically, the fellow’s challenge is securing adequate financing because the biotechnology industry offers high financial returns, but there is a long timeframe for investment realization. During the Fellowship Placement, Pamela hopes to gain knowledge and insights on attracting increased investments and refining social impact measurement, as well as U.S. legal and regulatory dynamics.
