Shakhawat Hossain has been working with Boys of Bangladesh, the oldest and the largest platform of self-identified Bangladeshi gay men, for the last 12 years. As one of the leaders of this voluntary organization, Hossain is involved with advocacy, policy, networking, and community mobilization projects and has coordinated the first ever LGBT workshop in Bangladesh. Recently, he represented the LGBT community at the United Nations during Bangladesh’s Universal Periodic Review 2013. He has also been a Task Force Member of South Asian Human Rights Commission on Marginalized Sexualities and Genders, an up-and-coming human rights organization that addresses LGBT rights violations in South Asia. As a CSP Fellow at the Brooklyn Community Pride Center, Hossain coordinated more than a dozen events, participated in conferences and trainings, and helped increase the organization's outreach through effective communication. Upon his return to Bangladesh, Hossain worked to organize the first ever national conference on gender and sexuality in Dhaka.
