As the Country Program Coordinator of Asha Nepal, Smirta Khadka works in the area of human trafficking by managing a hostel for children of trafficking survivors and educating young girls about human trafficking and their role in helping survivors reintegrate into the community by providing vocational training. As a fellow at the YMCA of Greater Houston in Texas, Khadka worked with the international services division on the Trafficked Persons Assistance Program where she learned the comprehensive case management and victim service delivery model widely used in the U.S. After completing the Community Solutions Program, Khadka worked to break the cycle of discrimination, illiteracy, and poverty experienced by victims of human trafficking and their children through peer support groups.
