As the Executive Director of Youth Exploring Solutions in Liberia, Stephen Lavalah engages and educates communities to make informed decisions about environmental policy. Lavalah also coordinates a coalition of youth-led development organizations that seeks to address critical barriers in achieving universal access to water and sanitation across Liberia. As a fellow at IDEAS for Us in Winter Park, Florida, Lavalah learned best practices for community organizing that create the intergenerational partnerships needed to drive sustainable solutions. Following the Community Solutions Program, Lavalah worked to advocate for the drafting and approval of Liberia’s oil spill contingency plan as well as the establishment of environmental clubs in secondary and tertiary institutions in several counties within Liberia.
