Tovian Estella Nelson is the Executive Director and Founder of Liberia Women Media Action Committee, the first and only radio station in Liberia dedicated solely to women. While in the U.S., Nelson worked with the Family Equality Council in Washington, DC, an advocacy organization fighting for equal rights for all families. Nelson worked intimately with the organization’s communications division, examining the issue of domestic violence in U.S. same-sex couples. Upon return to Liberia, Nelson conducted a research project to identify the major factors resulting in domestic violence as a means of advocating for specific government and civil society interventions.
