William Bird is the Director of Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) and is an Ashoka and Linc fellow, both in recognition of his work focused on children and the media. At MMA, he has been involved in more than 95 media monitoring projects on subjects ranging from gender-based violence, sexual harassment, HIV, and racism to children and the media and public broadcasting. He carried out the data analysis of the last two Global Media Monitoring Projects focused on gender and the media. MMA also developed a Monitoring Made Easy tool for monitoring gender and the media. MMA is currently working on data journalism projects including an African version of Churnalism and News Diffs, as well as two child-focused innovations.
